Nonuplets of record return to Mali from Morocco

Nine infants who were born simultaneously and are the only nonuplets in history have safely made their way back to Mali, where they spent the first 19 months of their life.

The newborns broke the Guinness World Record for the greatest number of live births.

Halima Cissé, now 27 years old, was sent to Morocco in advance of giving birth in May 2021 to receive specialized care.

They had been residing in Casablanca with medical assistance before to their homecoming.

Abdelkader Arby, the father, praised the Malian government for aiding the family financially after returning to the nation’s capital, Bamako, early on Tuesday morning. According to reports, the government will still assist them.

The kids, who were born by Caesarean surgery at 30 weeks, included five girls and four boys, according to Malian officials from the previous year.

According to Prof. Youssef Alaoui, medical director of the facility where they were born, the girls—named Kadidia, Fatouma, Hawa, Adama, and Oumou—and the boys—named Mohammed VI, Oumar, Elhadji, and Bah—weighed between 500g and 1kg (1.1lb and 2.2lb) at birth.

Given that they were born prematurely and spent the first few months of their life in the hospital, there was a chance that they could have experienced health issues.

The Ain Borja clinic provided them with round-the-clock treatment when they were relocated to an apartment.

Their father stated that each of them had a distinct personality earlier this year, on the occasion of their first birthday.

“They each have distinctive personalities. Some people are very quiet, whereas others weep a lot and create more noise. Some people demand to be scooped up constantly. It’s quite normal that they are all pretty different from one another.”

Mr. Arby added that people in Mali were “extremely eager to meet the babies with their own eyes” because they had gained fame there.
